Islamabad: At least eight people died and eight others were hurt as an over-speeding bus ploughed into a group of people in Pakistan's Mandi Bahauddin city on Saturday.

Police told Geo News the incident took place due to the driver's negligence and because the dense fog made it difficult to see.

According to police, the victims were standing on the road and waiting for a vehicle that they could board to attend a Mehndi ceremony when the speeding bus killed them, the news channel reported.

Police said rescue officials reached the spot and brought the injured people to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle fled the spot.
