At least one person died and ten others were injured after an explosion and gunfire targeted a government-organized rally in Quetta city in Pakistan on Wednesday, media reports said.

Police told The Balochistan Post that the rally was moving from Sariab Customs towards the city when it came under attack near Munir Mengal Road.

According to reports, armed attackers threw a grenade and then opened fire on those who were participating in the rally.

Following the attack, security forces quickly cordoned off the area.

The injured people were shifted to  Civil Hospital Quetta and Bolan Medical Complex after the attack.

The rally, titled “Jashn-e-Pakistan,” was led by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Ali Madad Jatak and attended by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, reported The Balochistan Post.

The chief minister had left the spot after delivering his speech due to security concerns.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
