Pakistan, Bangladesh resume direct flights after 14 years, check out how internet users reacted

The first direct flight between Pakistan and Bangladesh in 14 years landed at Jinnah International Airport on Thursday night, marking a historic journey of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane from Dhaka to Karachi.

The flight, BG341, departed Dhaka at 8:15 pm and arrived in Karachi at 11:03 pm, according to FlightRadar24. The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute upon arrival.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori welcomed the development, saying that cooperation between the two countries would extend beyond aviation into other sectors. “Today, after many years, the conspiracies have died,” Tessori told Dawn News. He also criticized India, accusing it of fomenting terrorism in Pakistan and conspiring against Bangladesh.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) took to X to announce the resumption of flights: “A long-awaited return—PIA welcomes our brothers from #Bangladesh with pride and warmth.”

The official Embassy of Pakistan in Bangladesh described the event as a “significant milestone in strengthening connectivity and bilateral engagement,” highlighting the importance of restoring direct air links after a 14-year hiatus.

Relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan have improved under the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Dhaka, which came to power following the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime on August 5, 2024.

Meanwhile, internet users reacted to the development and many of them did not welcome the resumption of flights.

One of the internet users said: "Pakistan still hasn’t apologised for the genocide it committed against the Bengali people, raping and killing more than 3 million people. The corrupt and treasonous interim government of Yunus has no shame or loyalty whatsoever to the Bengali people."

Another siad: "Two mighty incompetent, loan driven, biggest beggars of asia trying to look big....hhahaha."

Another internet user commented: "Two Islamic beggars coming together to learn effective toilet cleaning of their Turk masters."
