Pakistan: Abdul Sattar Edhi passes away

Karachi, July 9 (IBNS): Pakistan's popular philanthropist and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away in Karachi city on Friday.

He was 88.

His son Faisal Edhi confirmed his father's death and was quoted as saying by Geo News: "Edhi sahab passed away tonight. I want to tell you all, Pakistan and the world, that he is not with us anymore."

According to reports, his funeral prayers will be offered at  National Stadium after Zuhr prayers.

He was the chairman of Edhi Foundation.

Former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan tweeted :"Truly saddened to hear of Edhi Sahab's passing. He was a noble soul & a great Pakistani. He gave the first big donation to SKMT 26 years ago."

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif ‏said: "PM NS announces State funeral & Pakistan's highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz for the one &only Edhi Sb. You will be alive in our hearts!"
