Karachi: Two people, including the brother of a PTI candidate, died as violence and scuffle hit the first phase of local body elections in Sindh region of Pakistan on Sunday.

Counting of votes is currently underway.

“I can confirm death of Qaiser, brother of our party’s candidate Asghar Gandapur in Tando Adam. Qaiser has been subjected to violence which caused his death," Mushtaq Junejo, divisional president PTI from Tando Adam told Dawn News.

Polling was held in 14 districts of Sindh in the first phase with at least 21,298 candidates contested for 5,331 seats, reports The Express Tribune.

Voting which began at 9am ended at 5pm without any interruption and as many as 946 candidates were elected unopposed, the newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, violence during polling left several people injured.
