At least one person died and four others were hurt in a stabbing incident in Israel's Haifa city on Monday, media reports said.

The deceased person was a 60-year-old man.

The identity of the victim is still not known.

A knife-wielding man arrived at Merkazit HaMifratz, the central bus station in Haifa, and began stabbing people, the police said in a statement, describing the incident as a 'terror attack', reported Xinhua news agency.

Police said the suspect had been shot and killed.

No further details about him have been shared so far.

The victim, in his 60s, was fatally stabbed in the back multiple times, police told The Times of Israel.

Israel PM Condemns

Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the death of the man in the attack.

He said in a statement: "My wife Sara and I send our deepest condolences to the family of the man who was murdered in the shocking terrorist attack in Haifa and we send our best wishes for a swift and complete recovery to the wounded."

A section of media reports claimed the suspect was a man of Israeli origin from the Druze community.

He recently returned to Israel after staying abroad for years.
