Tripoli, Dec 26 (IBNS): The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its strong condemnation of the terrorist attack perpetrated on Tuesday, against the Libyan Foreign Ministry in Tripoli, resulting in a number of fatalities and injuries among innocent people.

The Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, described it as a criminal and brutal act aimed at impeding the pro-national dialogue efforts and at destabilizing the country.

The Secretary General urged the local authorities to extend every effort to track down the perpetrators and those standing behind them, and to bring them to justice.

He expressed his profound condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Libya over this painful event and the loss of precious lives, while wishing a prompt recovery for the injured.

Dr. Al-Othaimeen renewed the OIC’s unwavering stand against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, irrespective of their source, and expressed the OIC’s steadfast support for the Government of Libya in its vigorous combat against terrorism.

The attack left three people killed.

A car bomb exploded near the ministry, prompting security forces to rush to the scene. A suicide bomber then blew himself up on the second floor of the building while a second attacker died when the suitcase he was carrying exploded, according to Tarak al-Dawass, spokesperson for the special forces, as reported by Al Jazeera.

A third assailant, who was unarmed and wearing a bulletproof vest, was killed by security forces outside, Dawass told the news channel, who accused the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group of being responsible.

ISIL claimed responsibility for the incident.
