Nut rage: Ex-Korean Air VP gets 1-year jail term

Seoul, Feb 12 (IBNS): In a significant verdict, a South Korean court on Thursday sentenced a former vice president of Korea Airlines Co. to one year in prison for obstructing aviation safety by ordering a taxiing plane to return to the gate over an in-flight service incident connected to the way she was served nuts last year, media reports said.

"Cho Hyun-ah, the eldest daughter of the chairman of South Korea's largest full-service carrier, faced five counts of charges: changing the air route of a flight, violence leading to obstruction of aviation safety, intimidation, obstruction of business and obstruction of justice through deception," South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

"It is questionable whether Cho truly feels remorseful," Judge Oh Seong-woo told the news agency on the ruling.

"The so-called 'nut rage' case trampled on the integrity of humanity," Oh Seong-woo  said.

the incident had occurred on Dec 5 when Cho had directed a senior crew member to de-plane after she was served with macadamia nuts in an unopened bag instead of on a plate.

She had made the Seoul-bound flight from New York return to the gate when it was taxiing.
