North Korea targets South Korea leader Moon Jae-in for praising US roles in inter-Korean talks

Pyongyang, Jan 15 (IBNS): North Korea has slammed South Korean President Moon Jae-in as he recently praised US President Donald Trump for his roles in opening up inter-Korean talks.

Criticising the President's remark on US, North Korea also warned that it will withdrawal its participation from the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

"At this time, ill-boding remarks chilling the atmosphere for reconciliation are heard from South Korea, upsetting the people," the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said in an English dispatch as reported by South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

"He even made such rubbish that the North was led to dialogue to open up the chapter for 'the North's denuclearization,' not for the improvement of the South-North relations," the report said as it referred South Korean leader mentioning Trump's role in the inter-Korean talks.

"The present South Korean chief executive's attitude casts doubt as to his intent to improve the North-South ties and build confidence," the report said.

"We will as ever strive to improve the North-South ties but will never remain an onlooker to sordid acts of chilling the efforts," the report published in the mouthpiece outlet for the North Korean regime further said.

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in recently said his US counterpart Donald Trump 'deserves credit' for the talks between two warring neighbours North Korea and South Korea.

In a major development, North Korea said on Tuesday that it will be sending delegates to South Korea for the upcoming Winter Olympics, reports said.

The games are scheduled to take place in South Korea in the month of February.

The decision was reached following a high level meeting, involving Ri Son-gwon, North Korea's chief delegate and Cho Myoung-gyon, South Korea's Unification Minister.

The meeting took place it the Panmunjom peace village, a demilitarized zone located at the border.

"I came here with hopes that the two Koreas hold talks with a sincere and faithful attitude to give precious results to the Korean people who harbor high expectations for this meeting, as the first new year present," Ri Son-gwon, said at the start of the talks as quoted by Yonhap.

Following the meeting, South Korea's Vice Unification Minster Chun Hae-Sung told reporters: "The North side proposed dispatching a high-level delegation, National Olympic Committee delegation, athletes, supporters, art performers, observers, a taekwondo demonstration team and journalists to the games."

According to Chun, Seoul has proposed a family unification programme and bilateral military talks between the two nations.

The last North and South dialogue took place in 2015, following which, relationship between the two nations had soured.
