Kapilavastu/IBNS: The holy city of Kapilvastu in Nepal witnessed violence on Thursday when a Muslim mob allegedly attacked a group of Hindus while they were taking part in a religious procession around Krishnangar Bazaar area in the city. One person died in police firing.

After the incident, District Administration Office (DAO), Kapilvastu, imposed an indefinite curfew around the Krishnanagar area, to thwart any untoward incident in the area, reported The Himalayan Times.

Nepal is a Hindu-dominated nation.

One person was killed as police fired to disperse the crowd following the violence.

He was identified as Suraj Kumar Pandey of Krishnanagar Municipality-2.

"He died after being shot in the head by a local police administration in Krishnanagar, Kapilvastu, Nepal," sources said.

“The victim died while undergoing treatment at the local clinic, this afternoon,” Dr Dilip Kumar Agrahari told The Himalayan Times.

The incident had occurred after Hindus group was attacked with stones and bricks from nearby rooftops by another group, probably Muslims, while taking part in a procession around Krishnangar Bazaar area, reported the newspaper.

“We are trying to maintain law and order in the area,” Chief District Officer Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha, told The Himalayan Times.
