Manchester Victoria station stabbing leaves three hurt

London, Jan 1 (IBNS): At least three people were injured after they were stabbed by a knife-wielding man at Manchester Victoria railway station in the UK on Monday, officials said on Tuesday.

A man and woman in their 50s were attacked at about 20:50 GMT, Greater Manchester Police told BBC.

In the incident a British Transport Police officer was also stabbed.

Security officials are currently at the scene.

A total of 39 people arrested following a stabbing in a west London street have been released from custody.

A group of 20 males and 15 females, all aged between 16 and 22, have been released under investigation, Metropolitan Police reported.

A further four males have been released on bail until late January.

Police were called to Fulham Palace Road in Hammersmith, shortly before 01:00hrs on Monday, 31 December, to reports of a stabbing.

"Additional officers, including the Territorial Support Group, attended this address and attempted to speak with a large number of people who were inside," read the police.

As the occupants failed to co-operate with police, a total of 39 people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They were all taken into custody at various police stations.

Superintendent Mark Lawrence, said: "What appears to have been a minor argument has resulted in a man sustaining life-threatening injuries."

"Officers were quickly on the scene and provided him with first aid prior to the arrival of our colleagues in the LAS. He has been taken to hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries," Lawrence said.

"Whilst it is unusual for so many people to be arrested in the early stages of an investigation such as this, due to a lack of co-operation and the necessity of securing essential evidence following a serious assault, this action was appropriate."

Two knives were recovered close to the scene. Enquiries continue to establish what happened.
