Lac-Mégantic rail disaster trial: Jury selection underway, several jurors turn away
However, several jurors have turned away citing reasons of school, work and loss of income.
Several people even broke down in front of judge of Quebec Superior Court, Gaétan Dumas, as they said they knew the victims of the crash.
Dumas accepted the exceptions of majority people.
Engineer and train driver Thomas Harding, train operations manager Jean Demaître and railway traffic controller Richard Labrie from the now-defunct Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway are under the trial, report said.
The three accused, who had pleaded not guilty, booked with 47 charges including criminal negligence leading to the deaths.
The trial, which will be bilingual, expected to last till the end of the year.
According to the report, the judge said his intention is to determine the bilingualism of the potential jurors on Monday.
Charles Shearson, one of Harding's lawyers was quoted by CBC News: "Certain questions will be asked of the candidates to assess their level of bilingualism and also to assess if they can act as an impartial jury within the trial."
