US Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday said she intends to  'earn and win' the Democratic Presidential nomination after President Joe Biden quit the 2024 race and endorsed her in his place.

Harris thanked Biden for his 'extraordinary' leadership.

She posted on X: " I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination."

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. If you’re with me, add a donation right now," she said.

Kamala Harris created history after she became the first woman to become the Vice President of the country.

She was also the first Indian-origin woman to hold the post.

Biden drops out of Presidential race

US President Joe Biden on Sunday announced he will not seek re-election in the 'best interest' of his party and the country.

Biden was under pressure to quit the presidential race following his struggling performance in the debate with many within his party doubting his candidacy and re-election attempt.

Biden made the announcement just four months before the USA votes to elect a new President.

In his statement posted on X, Biden said: "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."
