Kabul: Afghanistan security forces destroy joint ISIS, Haqqani network centre

Kabul/IBNS: At least five terrorists were killed as  Afghan Special Forces busted a major network of militants-led by ISIS and Haqqani Network- in Kabul  during an operation conducted in the country's capital city, media reports said.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), in a statement said the Special Forces of the directorate conducted the raid in Shakar Dara district and 11th district of Kabul city, reported Khaama Press.

The statement further added that the network was led by Sanaullah, a senior ISIS leader who was also in charge of coordinating Haqqani Network’s activitites in urban areas, reported the Afghanistan-based news agency.

According to NDS, the network had carried out multiple attacks including rocket attack on presidential inauguration, attack on Sikh temple, attack on Mazari tomb and rocket attacks on Bagram airfield, the news agency report said.

The Afghanistan security forces also arrested eight suspected terrorists.

During the raid, several weapons and munitions including 82mm rockets, mortar rounds, Dshk heavy machine gun and 250 kgs of explosives were recovered from them.

The Afghan Vice President and Former Director of the Afghan Intelligence (National Directorate of Security) Amrullah Saleh congratulated the security forces for the achievement.

"I congratulate @NDSAfghanistan for conducting a successful raid on IS-K & Haqani network safe house in north Kabul. Caches of weapons including the infamous knife & chair used 4 on camera throat cutting were found. The pile of evidence against terrorist & their sponsors going up," he tweeted.
