| @indiablooms | Aug 28, 2020, at 08:27 pm

Tokyo/UNI: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who suffers from a chronic illness, is to step down from his post owing to health issues.

Prime Minister Abe is expected to hold a news conference this afternoon to address concerns about his health after two recent hospital visits, Public broadcaster NHK reported on Friday.

Ruling party officials have said Abe's health is fine, but rumours about his deteriorating health have raised questions on his ability to handle the job with another year of his term left.

Abe's first admission to hospital on Aug 17, which was described as a "health check up", had lasted more than seven hours further stoking concerns about his health.

On Aug 24, Abe revisited the Keio University Hospital again to collect his reports and undergo more tests.
