Italian culture minister is calling to 'identify' a man who was caught on camera allegedly carving his and his fiancée’s names into the Colosseum in Rome.

According to reports, he wrote 'Ivan+Haley 23' on the wall of the structure.

Gennaro Sangiuliano tweeted: "Tourist scars the Colosseum."

He shared the video of the couple allegedly carving on the wall of the iconic structure.

Sending out a strong message, in another tweet, the minister said: "I consider it very serious, unworthy and a sign of great incivility that a tourist defaces one of the most famous places in the world, the Colosseum, to engrave the name of his fiancée. I hope that whoever did this will be identified and sanctioned according to our laws."

The tweet by the minister also includes a blurred image of the suspected tourist.

"Some bystanders filmed the scene, which allegedly took place on 23 June. The video ended up on social media and alerted police officers," reported ANSA news agency.
