Israeli army hijacks Gaza phones to broadcast Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday vowed to “finish the job” against Hamas in Gaza, using his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to reject calls for ending the war, media reports said.

In an extraordinary move back home, the Israeli government launched what it described as an “unprecedented operation” to ensure Gazans heard his words.

According to the Associated Press, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the Israeli military had taken control of phones inside Gaza, including those of civilians and Hamas operatives, so that Netanyahu’s speech could be streamed directly onto their devices.

Additionally, loudspeakers mounted on trucks were deployed along the Israel-Gaza border to broadcast the speech across the Strip.

The address, however, was met with resistance inside the UN hall. Dozens of delegates walked out as Netanyahu began, while shouts echoed through the chamber.

“Western leaders may have buckled under the pressure,” Netanyahu declared. “And I guarantee you one thing: Israel won’t.”

Wearing a hostage's pin with a QR code linked to an October 7 memorial site, Netanyahu also displayed a visual aid titled “THE CURSE”, a map of the region.

He accused world leaders of enabling terrorism by recognising Palestine.

“I will condemn those leaders who, instead of condemning the murderers, rapists, and burners of children, want to give them a state in the heart of Israel,” he said.

Netanyahu’s speech comes amid mounting war crimes allegations and intensifying global calls for a ceasefire.

While 150 countries now recognise Palestine, the US does not. President Donald Trump, however, stated on Thursday that he would block any Israeli annexation of the West Bank, even as Netanyahu’s coalition pushes controversial settlement plans that critics warn could doom the two-state solution.

Netanyahu and Trump are scheduled to meet during the Israeli leader’s visit.
