The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday said it has eliminated Islamic Jihad operative Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem, who allegedly infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 attack.

In a post on X, the IDF stated: “ELIMINATED: Zaher Brahim Khalil Abu Salem, an Islamic Jihad military operative who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 Massacre.”

The military further alleged that Abu Salem participated in the abduction of Israeli civilians from their homes and was involved in holding them hostage. It added that he also attempted to plan and advance multiple attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians.

In a separate statement, the IDF said its forces have dismantled an underground Hezbollah facility in the Majdal Zoun area, within the security zone in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the tunnel complex was constructed with technological and operational support from Iran. It said the underground structure extended over 200 metres in length and reached a depth of approximately 25 metres. Inside, troops reportedly recovered hundreds of weapons and identified four launch shafts directed toward Israeli territory.

The developments come just two days after Lebanon and Israel agreed to a U.S.-brokered security arrangement aimed at easing tensions along the border region.
