India brings investments, Pakistan doesn’t: Trump's Republican Party members' sharp message
US Congressman Rich McCormick, a member of President Donald Trump’s Republican Party, has sent a strong message to the US President, stressing that unlike India, Pakistan does not bring investments into the United States.
Speaking at a time when ties between New Delhi and Washington have hit a rough patch, McCormick warned that alienating India would be “big trouble for all of us”.
Addressing an event hosted by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), McCormick was quoted by India Today as saying:
“Pakistan is a country with 300 million people. But you don’t see it bringing investments into America.”
Highlighting India’s growing economic footprint, he added:
“India not only takes investments, but it also brings investments into the United States.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly approved a sweeping bipartisan sanctions bill targeting Russia’s key trade partners, including India, China and Brazil, over their continued purchases of Russian oil.
The development was disclosed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a principal sponsor of the legislation and a leading advocate of tougher measures against Moscow.
According to Graham, Trump has “greenlit” the bill, which proposes imposing tariffs of up to 500 percent on countries that knowingly continue trade in Russian oil and uranium.
India, China in focus
While the proposed legislation does not explicitly name countries, its scope is widely understood to cover major buyers of Russian energy, notably India, China and Brazil.
These countries have continued importing Russian oil despite Western sanctions, taking advantage of discounted prices since the onset of the Ukraine conflict.
If implemented, the tariffs could significantly disrupt trade relations between the United States and these nations, raising concerns about broader geopolitical and economic repercussions.
