Imran Khan slams 'media campaign' against him over his third marriage plan

Islamabad, Jan 10 (IBNS): Ina series of tweets, Pakistani politician Imran Khan on Wednesday attacked 'gutter media campaign' against his plan to marry for third time.

Imran Khan, under whose leadership Pakistan cricket team won the 1992 World Cup, questioned whether he had "sold" state secrets to India or "laundered" the country's wealth that he was facing 'media campaign' against him.

"For 3 days I have been wondering have I looted a bank; or money laundered bns in nation's wealth; or ordered a model-town-like killing spree; or revealed state secrets to India? I have done none of these but discovered I have committed a bigger crime: wanting to get married," Khan tweeted.

Khan recently broke silence over his plan to 'marry' his spiritual guru Bushra Maneka.

He said: "The vicious, gutter media campaign led by NS & MSR mafia does not bother me as respect & humiliation come from Allah Almighty."

Expressing concern, Khan said: "However, my concern is for my children & the very conservative family of Bushra begum, all of whom have been subjected to this malicious campaign by NS & MSR."

Khan blamed ousted Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif and owner of a private media house for the campaign against him.

He tweeted: "NS & MSR can rest assured that their vicious campaign has only strengthened my resolve to fight them all the way."

" I have known the Sharifs for 40 years and I know all their sordid personal lives but I would never stoop to the level of exposing these sordid details," he said.

Khan, who is the chief of Pakistani political party PTI, said: "All I ask of my well wishers and supporters is that they pray I find personal happiness which, except for a few years, I have been deprived of."

Amid media reports speculating PTI chief Imran Khan's alleged third marriage, the Pakistani political party on Sunday claimed the former World Cup winning captain had proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka.

The statement issued by the PTI further said Maneka has "asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family, including her children."

"It is indeed sad to see this extremely private and sensitive matter be made the subject of erroneous story leading to all manner of public conjecture," the statement further said.

The statement issued by the party said the reports had put an "unacceptable burden" on Maneka and Khan's children.

It said the children had to learn about the private affairs of Imran Khan and Maneka from the media.

The statement said if the proposal is accepted then the 1992-World Cup winning Pakistani cricketing legend will make a public announcement "in the proper manner."

Speculation over Imran Khan's third marriage came to light after  The News published a report that claimed the politician has married for third time.

Imran Khan has secretly married again, this time with a woman he used to visit for spiritual guidance, The News reported.
