Hijab wearing student barred from taking exam

Montreal, Oct 4 (IBNS): A female Muslim student who denied taking off her hijab at the time of her examination, now gets accommodated in a Montreal Junior college to take her exam.

Lina Legare, school spokesman says two weeks back, the school biology teacher who was afraid she was wearing her headphones, asked the girl to partly pull off her Islamic scarf just to ensure clean examination conduct.

However, the young woman refused to do so as she didn’t want to show her ears to her male teacher. Instead she asked him to touch her ears to check the absence of headphones.

Contrarily, according to Legare, the incident made the school teacher feel awkward and uncomfortable and hence prevented the girl from taking her tests at the College de Maisonneuve.

Presently, the school is in a discussion with the student to finalise a date for her to complete her tests.

According to Legare, the student hasn’t filed a formal complaint and is instead looking to come to an amicable agreement with the institution.
