Hamid Mir undergoes operation

Karachi, Apr 19 (IBNS) Celebrity Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, who was injured after being shot at by four unknown armed men in Karachi city, underwent an operation on Saturday.

Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain told Geo News that the operation was successful and prayed for Hamid Mir's quick recovery.

Hamid Mir was injured after he was shot at by four unknown armed men in Pakistan's Karachi city on Saturday, media reports said.

He was shot at when he was on his way from Karachi airport to the Geo News office.

Hamid Mir, who received bullet injuries, was shifted to a private hospital.

Hamid Mir's brother Amir Mir has accused Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lt. Gen. Zaheerul Islam's involvement in the attack on the celebrity journalist in Karachi on Saturday.

Amir Mir said  Hamid Mir had earlier disclosed to him as to where to point finger if he was attacked.

“ISI Chief had worked out my assassination plot,” journalist Amir Mir told Geo News quoting  Hamid Mir.

"In case of an attack ISI Chief Zaheerful Islam and some other officials of ISI will be responsible," he said.

Amir Mir told Geo News: “Some elements of ISI harbor extreme hostility against me for my opinion, views and stance on Pervez Musharraf and issues of Balochistan.”

Reacting to the incident,  cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan tweeted: " Shocked & saddened by attack on Hamid Mir in Karachi.Strongly condemn growing threats/attacks on journalists. Govt must ensure their safety."

Hamid Mir is a news anchor, terrorism expert, and security analyst who regularly participates in international conferences. He is also known for his columns in Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, and English newspapers and hosts a popular political talk show Capital Talk on Geo TV.

He was banned from TV by the military regime of General Pervez Musharraf in 2007 and was again banned by the Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) government in June 2008.

But later he was awarded Pakistan high civil decoration Hilal-i-Imtiaz by President Zardari under the PPP government.

In 2012,  Hamid Mir, had a miraculous escape after his driver spotted just in time a bag inside his car with explosives.
