Halifax man arrested for human trafficking

Toronto, Sept 23 (IBNS): Toronto Police have arrested a man who is alleged of recruiting a young 17-year-old girl from Halifax, forced her to come to Toronto, work in a spa amd provide sexual services to clients.

On Wednesday 24 year old Shondell Lucas-Johnson was arrested on account of a human trafficking investigation that began in April 2015.

Presently he is facing eight charges including trafficking of a person under the age of 18 and forcible confinement.

According to police, a man destroyed the teen victim’s identification documents and gave her fake ones that falsely identified her as an adult. Police also said that the accused also smashed the girl’s phone to block her from contacting her friends and family for help and also assaulted her.

However, the girl was successful in escaping and contacted the authorities for help. Halifax Regional Police arrested Lucas-Johnson in that city on Wednesday, but he was brought to Toronto to appear before the court on Thursday.

Police say the accused resides at Dartmouth, N.S., and is known to them from past investigations.  They say there may be more victims and are urging them to come forward.
