Sana'a, Sept 2 (IBNS) Two members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were gunned down by a man who opened fired when the deceased were travelling in a convoy between Saada and Sana’a, officials said on Wednesday.

ICRC Yemen confirmed the incident through their official Twitter account.

“Our two @ICRC colleagues who were killed today had put themselves in harm's way to help improve the lives of others. This is unacceptable," ICRC Yemen  tweeted.

Condemning the incident, it said: “We are shocked and appalled by the brutal killing of two of our staff members, earlier today in #Amran. #Yemen 1-2.”

In a statement issued by Antoine Grand, head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen, to their official website, he said, “The ICRC condemns in the strongest possible terms what appears to be deliberate targeting of our staff. Our hearts and sympathy with the families of our colleagues and loved ones.”

“It is premature at this stage to determine the impact of this terrible incident to our operations in Yemen. We want at this moment to summon our strength as a team and that all the other appointed us to absorb this incomprehensible act," he added.
