Dhaka:  The Bangladesh government on Friday has enforced the nationwide lockdown till April 25 and said that the army will increase its patrol and resort to tough action against people not maintaining social distancing and violating home quarantine rules to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The army, which had played glorious role during the nation’s different disasters in the past, would now take action against those found to be unnecessarily coming out of homes.

From today, they will strictly ensure social distancing and home quarantine in all parts of the country, said Lt. Col. Abdullah Ibne Jayed, Director of Inter Service Public Relation.
Strict action will be taken against those who would disobey instructions issued by the government, he said.

He said 525 teams of Bangladesh Army were performing various activities to aid the local administration.

The Army has been working since March 25 in aid of the civil administration.

Earlier on March 23, the government decided to deploy members of Armed Forces--Army, Navy and Air Force-to tackle the coronavirus situation.

Bangladesh announced six deaths from corona and 94 new cases in the last 24 hours. So far, the country has confirmed a total of 424 COVID-19 cases in the country’s 21 out of 64 districts. Global death till right now 95,722.
