Explosions rock Tehran: India issues safety advisory for its citizens

The Indian Embassy in Iran issued an advisory for its citizens, directing them to exercise 'utmost caution' and remain vigilant amid rising tensions following Israeli strikes on Iran.

"In view of the developing situation, all Indian nationals in Iran are advised to exercise utmost caution, avoid unnecessary movements and remain indoors as far as possible," the Indian Embassy in Iran said in a statement.

The Embassy urged Indians to monitor local news and maintain situational awareness.

Israel and the United States jointly launched a “pre-emptive strike” on Iran early Saturday morning, marking a sharp escalation in tensions in the Middle East, media reports said.

After Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced the strike, US President Donald Trump confirmed Washington’s involvement in the operation, which reportedly hit five Iranian cities, including the capital, Tehran.

Several missiles struck the University Street and Republic areas of Tehran, according to reports citing local media.

Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA reported thick smoke rising over parts of the capital, with explosions heard at multiple locations.

According to media reports, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has been moved to a secure location following the strikes.

In a video address, Trump said the United States would not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons and added that diplomatic efforts had previously been made to reach an agreement.

Calling the operation a “noble mission,” Trump acknowledged the possibility of casualties, saying the action was aimed at securing long-term peace and stability.

Israel has also declared a state of emergency in anticipation of possible retaliatory strikes from Iran, raising fears of wider regional escalation.
