Explosion rocks New York's Lower Manhattan, 29 injured

New York, Sept 18 (IBNS) An explosion in lower Manhattan of New York rocked the area on Saturday night and injured about 25, according to initial reports.

"Explosion happened at roughly 8:30 pm on 23rd street between 6th and 7th avenues. Several injured transported to area hospitals," said  .J. Peter Donald,

Assistant Commissioner for Communication & Public Information in the NYPD.

According to tweets by the New York Police Department (NYPD), emergency units are on the scene of W23St (6 to 7 Aves) where several people  were injured. 

"We believe this was an intentional act. As of now, no connection to an earlier incident in NJ," tweeted NYPD.

 Police later said 29 were injured and one of the victims has serious injuries.
