Washington, Mar 7 (IBNS): The White House on Tuesday confirmed that  President Donald Trump's top economic adviser Gary Cohn has resigned, reports said.

As per a CNN report, Cohn, who had been rumored just weeks ago as a potential next chief of staff, will leave the White House in the wake of his fierce disagreement with the President's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Cohn is expected to leave in the coming weeks, the White House said.

US President Donald Trump said decision on appointing new Chief Economic Advisor will be made soon.

He said the appointment will be made 'wisely'.

"Will be making a decision soon on the appointment of new Chief Economic Advisor. Many people wanting the job - will choose wisely!," Trump said.

The US took a decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from all other countries.

Trump on Thursday announced an imposition of 25% and 10% tariffs on imported steel and aluminium respectively.

Trump hopes the imposition of tariffs will help him to bring back jobs to the US which he alleged to have been stolen by other countries that acted unfairly.
