Washington, July 16 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Sunday congratulated France for winning the World Cup by beating Croatia in the final.

He appreciated Russian President Vladimir Putin for hosting the grand football event successfully.

" Congratulations to France, who played extraordinary soccer, on winning the 2018 World Cup. Additionally, congratulations to President Putin and Russia for putting on a truly great World Cup Tournament -- one of the best ever!," Trump tweeted.

In an exciting final event, France defeated Croatia by 4-2 to clinch the title.

This was the second title won by France in the history of World Cup.
