French police have arrested a suspect in connection with the stabbing of three women near Paris metro stations on Friday, authorities said.

According to local media reports, the attacks took place while the French capital was crowded with Christmas and year-end festivities.

The three victims were stabbed at separate locations along Line 3 of the Paris metro network, which runs through central Paris, the public transport authority RATP told the AFP news agency.

The incidents occurred between 4:15 pm and 4:45 pm local time at or near the République and Arts-et-Métiers metro stations. Emergency services responded quickly and provided medical treatment to the victims.

Using surveillance camera footage and mobile phone tracking, police identified and located the 25-year-old suspect in the Val-d’Oise department, north of Paris, prosecutors told Le Monde.

Confirming the arrest, the Paris Police Prefecture said in a post on X: “Thanks to the immediate action of investigators from the Regional Transport Security Unit of the Paris Police Prefecture (@prefpolice), supported by police officers from Val-d’Oise, the suspected individual was apprehended.”
