China protests against US bill indicating cooperation with Taiwan

| | Dec 26, 2016, at 07:32 pm
Beijing/Washington, Dec 26 (IBNS): China has strongly criticised US President Barack Obama signing defense policy bill on cooperation with Taiwan, according to media reports on Monday.

China's Foreign Ministry in a statement issued on Sunday said it had lodged a protest with the US over the Taiwan content of the act and expressed its strong opposition.

The outgoing US President has signed a defence spending bill amounting to $618.7 billion, which came to be known as the National Defense Authorization Act

The defence inclides plans to conduct high-level military interactions with self-ruled Taiwan, media reported.

China has always claimed Taiwan as part of its own territory.

Therefore, China sees the defence bill as an act of infringement and interference into China's internal matters, media reported.

The US-China relation entered into rough waters recently when US President elect, Donald Trump spoke to Taiwan's President Tsai Lng-wen earlier this month, media reported.
