China: Bus overturns in Hainan province , 8 killed

Haikou, Apr 10 (IBNS) At least eight students were killed and above 30 others were injured as a bus in which they were traveling was overturned at Hainan province in China on Thursday, media reports said.

"The accident happened at about 11 a.m. in Chengmai County, where Xincai School had organized an outing for 586 students in 14 buses, according to the county government," China's Xinhua news agency reported.

"The county government has already paid 100,000 yuan (16,258 U.S. dollars) to the families of each of those killed," it said,

Authorities have started investigating the cause of the mishap.
