Car bomb blast kills woman and child in Afghanistan

Kabul, July 3 (IBNS): At least two people, including a woman and a child, died after a car bomb exploded in central Logar province in Afghanistan on Monday evening, reports said.

The incident took place at around 6:30 pm in Pul-e-Alam, the provincial capital.

It injured three other women, local Tolo News reported.

Taliban, who claimed responsibility for carrying out the attack, said at least five foreign troops have been killed during the incident.

Though US forces spokesman Lt. Col. Martin O’Donnell acknowledged the attack, he dismissed the Taliban's claims and said there was no casualty.

"We have also seen, although we cannot confirm, reports from Afghan officials that civilians, including women and a child, were killed and injured in the blast.  If true, our thoughts go out to the families of the innocent, who continue to suffer needlessly from the Taliban's violence and their refusal to listen to the call of the Afghan people and take the courageous step towards long-lasting peace," he said in a statement.
