Canada PM Justin Trudeau won't meet Sikh leader during India visit

Ottawa, Feb 16 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will begin his India visit on Saturday but he will not meet Sikh leader Capt. Amarinder Singh in the entire tour amid the controversy over the Sikh separatist movement that had linked the Canadian government, media reports said.

Rubbishing the Indian media's reports of Trudeau's meet with Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh when the former will visit Golden Temple (in the Indian state of Punjab), officials of PM Trudeau's Office told CBC News that there is no such possibility.

"We have nothing planned with him at this time" one Canadian official told CBC News.

The Sikh nationalist movement is a movement which aims to make Punjab region of India, a separate country named Khalistan.

One of the Indian magazines, Outlook India, had earlier mocked Trudeau referring to him as "Khalistan II. Made in Canada".

The magazine consists of few articles about Canada's alleged involvement with Sikh independence movement in Punjab, India.

The articles were supplemented by an interview of Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh.

Trudeau will visit India with a primary aim to develop and strengthen the trade relations between the two nations.

Trudeau will tour India between Feb 17 and 23.

The Canada PM will visit Agra, Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi during his stay in India.

Trudeau will engage with Indian leaders in talks related to government and business, empowerment of women and girls and economic ties between the two countries.

He will discuss the ways with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create good, middle class jobs for people of both the nations.

Apart from bilateral talks, Trudeau is scheduled to visit prominent Indian places like Taj Mahal in Agra, Golden Temple in Amritsar and Swaminarayan Akshardham in Gujarat.

Last month, both the leaders had met on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
