Vancouver, Apr 27 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has extended his support to former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi, who carried out a fundraising campaign for his foundation in Vancouver recently to build a hospital in his own country, media reports said.

Thanking Trudeau, Indian and Pakistani community and Canada, Afridi tweeted, "Thank you @JustinTrudeau for supporting the vision of @SAFoundationN & ur hospitality. @Canada is a nation of gr8 ppl. A special tks to @IRCanada, the Pakistani & Indian community of #Vancouver for ur generous contribution for #KohatHospital as together we all are #HopeNotOut"

Trudeau has issued a statement, which was shared by Afridi on Twitter, regarding the fundraising campaign.

The statement reads, "Let us recognise that our country is only successful because we have built it on a firm foundation of diversity in which Canadians from all communities - including our Muslim-Canadian community - come together to make our country better for everyone."

"The generosity you have all shown through your attendance and donations truly embodies what it means to be Canadians."

Afridi, the former Pakistani all-rounder, played international cricket for 11 years for Pakistan.

He is mostly known for his explosive batting and spin bowling.

Being a philanthropist, Africa runs Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF).
