Toronto, Jan 2 (IBNS): A Belleville Court fined a man from Ontario for cruelty to animal under the Ontario SPCA Act recently, according to media reports.

CTVNews, quoting OSPCA, said Stanley Geertsma was found guilty in a Belleville court for causing suffering to an animal and was fined $1,000.

An officer from Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) found a squirrel languishing in a cage on a very hot day in August, media reports said.

When the squirrel was taken out of the cage, it appeared to be unconscious and gasping for air.

The squirrel was rushed to an animal hospital, but it died on the way.

A necropsy revealed that the squirrel died from severe dehydration due to exposure.

The OSPCA then charged  the 34-year-old Marmora, Ont., man for leaving the squirrel in a cage under the hot sun and temperature of 29 degree C.
