Humboldt, Sept 12 (IBNS): Canadian ice hockey team Humboldt Broncos will play their first game on Wednesday since they suffered a deadly accident on a highway of the province in April this year, media reports said.

The Broncos will play their opening match against the Nipawin Hawks.

Prior to the Broncos' return to the ice, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the entire nation will cheer the hockey team on Wednesday night, CTV News reported.

Trudeau made the comment while speaking at a Liberal caucus meeting in Saskatoon.

The Prime Minister has been quoted by CTV News as saying, "I am glad to say the Broncos will be back on the ice tonight for the first time and I want to wish them the very best."

"You have us and 37 million fans cheering you on."

The collision between Humboldt Broncos team bus and a transport truck claimed 16 lives and left 13 others injured.

Sixteen people who were killed include Humboldt Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan along with several other players.

The victims include players Adam Herold, Connor Lukan, Evan Thomas, Jacob Leicht, Jaxon Joseph, Logan Boulet, Logan Hunter, Logan Schatz, Stephen Wack, Parker Tobin, team personnel Brody Hinz, Darcy Haugan, Glen Doerksen, Mark Cross and Tyler Beiber.

The team were on its way to Game 5 of a semi-final against the same team the Humboldt will take on tonight.
