Toronto, July 30 (IBNS): Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources said dozens of forest fires in northeastern Ontario are still out of control, media reports said.

The ministry said there are 39 active fires in the northeastern part of Ontario till Saturday evening.

Out of 39 fires, 14 are out of control.

Parry Sound 33 blaze, the largest in northeastern Ontario, has been raging for more than a week.

Ministry spokesperson Shayne McCool told CTV News that ground crews, water bombers and helicopters, attacked the fire's perimeter on Saturday with positive results.

McCool said if the smoke remains very heavy, police may close some portion of of the Trans-Canada, designated Highway 69 in the region.

Ryan Murell, fire chief in Dryden, Ontario, has been quoted by CTV News, "We're making sure that Red Cross has the right stretchers available ... but right now there's really been no communities under threat."
