London/IBNS: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has tested positive for Covid-19, has been shifted to the intensive care unit of the hospital after his condition worsened, the Downing Street has said. He was admitted to hospital yesterday.

A statement by the No 10 Downing Street said: "Since Sunday evening, the prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas' Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus. Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the intensive care unit at the hospital."

"The PM is receiving excellent care, and thanks all NHS staff for their hard work and dedication," the statement read.

Ten days after he was tested positive for COVID-19, British PM Boris Johnson was hospitalised for tests yesterday.

The Downing Street had said the step was taken as a 'precautionary measure'.

Johnson was tested positive for novel coronavirus on March 27 and was since then, self-isolating in Downing Street.

On Friday, Johnson said in a video message that he was remaining in self-isolation, as he was still showing symptoms of the disease.

The Prime Minister said that he was continuing to carry out his duties and was communicating with other government ministers while in self-isolation to take measures to curb the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Johnson's fiancee Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant with his child, said she has spent the past week in bed with symptoms of coronavirus.

The 32-year-old tweeted that she has been suffering symptoms of the disease.
