Dhaka/IBNS: Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria, who portrayed the country's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on screen, was on Sunday arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka in connection with a murder case, media reports said.

Nusraat, who was on her way to Thailand, was arrested at the immigration checkpoint of the airport for her alleged link to an attempted murder case during the students' protests last year.

The police case was filed with Vatara Police Station where the actress was taken to after the arrest.

Nusraat was later shifted to the custody of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

As per a report by Prothom Alo English, Nusraat has been shifted to prison.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Dhaka on Monday ordered the actress to be sent to prison.

The case was registered against 17 actors including Nusraat for allegedly attempting to murder a student in Dhaka's Vatara during the violent protests that eventually led to the ouster of Hasina, who fled Bangladesh and took refuge in India in August 2024.

Also a model and presenter, Nusraat made her acting debut in 2015 with Ankush Hazra starrer Aashiqui. She has acted in several popular Bengali films both in Bangladesh and India.

She played Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation, which was based on Bangladesh's founding father and first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
