Dhaka/IBNS: The Bangladesh government is trying to evacuate its nationals who are currently stranded in Wuhan city of China where coronavirus outbreak occurred.

"We have tried and are trying to get our people out of Wuhan. But, the Chinese government is not allowing anybody, including Bangladeshis, to get out of the city as part of precautionary measures. The Chinese are serious because this virus is very infectious and the Chinese authorities do not want to take any risk in this regard," a senior foreign ministry official told Dhaka Tribune.

The official also said: “The US Embassy in China asked Chinese government to allow them to airlift their citizens from Wuhan. However, they (Chinese government) did not respond.”

Meanwhile, the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in China has left at least 80 people dead so far, media reports said.

Nearly 3000 have been reportedly infected by the virus.

The national new year holiday has been extended by three days to Sunday, in an attempt to contain the outbreak, BBC reported.
