Bangladesh monk killing: Three detained

Dhaka, May 15 (IBNS) At least three people were detained over the killing of Buddhist monk in Bangladesh, media reports said on Sunday.

"The police held Abdur Rahim, 26, and Md Ziaul Haque, 25, Samong Chak, 32, early Sunday," Prothom Alo reported.

Naikkhangchhari police officer-in-charge Abul Khayer was quoted as saying by the newspaper that they were arrested over suspicious movement in the area.

A 75-year old Buddhist monk was hacked to death in Naikkhangchhari upazila of Bandarban, Bangladesh, on Saturday morning.

The corpse was found in Baishari Bihar at Uppar Chak Para village, near the upazila, Daily Star reported.

The victim, identified as Mong Shwe U Chak, lived there all alone, reports said.
