Dhaka: A minor became pregnant after an imam of a local mosque allegedly raped her at Chandra in Chandpur’s Sadar upazila.

The incident came to light on Sunday as the victim's father filed a case with Sadar model police station against Foysal Ahmed, an imam of Rashedia Jame Masjid, said Nasimuddin, officer-in-charge of the police station, reports Prothom Alo.

According to the case statement, the girl used to learn Arabic from Foysal along with other children at his home, reported the newspaper.

The imam reportedly kept her one day after taking the class and allowing the rest to leave and then raped her.

Later, he raped the girl repeatedly and threatened her to remain silent, Prothom Alo reported quoting the statement.

The imam is hiding. Police are trying to arrest him.
