Bangladesh interim government chief Muhammad Yunus visits Indian Embassy, pays tribute Manmohan Singh

Bangladesh Interim government chief Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday visited the Indian High Commission in Dhaka to pay his tributes to late PM Manmohan Singh who died in New Delhi last week.

Paying tribute to the two-time Indian PM, who is credited as the architect of the country's economy, Yunus placed a wreath on the image of Singh in the Embassy.

Indian envoy Pranay Kumar Verma received Yunus at the high commission at Baridhara at 11:30am, reported The Daily Star.

Singh died at 92 on December 26 at AIIMS Delhi.

His last rites were performed on Saturday at Nigambodh Ghat with full state honours.

Manmohan Singh rose to prominence as the country's finance minister during the Congress regime headed by PV Narasimha Rao during 1991-96, for bringing sweeping reforms that transformed the economy.

As the two-term UPA Prime Minister, he stayed at the top post from 2004 to 2014 and served as a member of the Rajya Sabha till early this year.

He retired from the Rajya Sabha in April.
