Dhaka, July 31 (IBNS): In yet another setback for BNP chief Khaleda Zia, the Bangladesh High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail peititon of the former Bangladesh PM in connection with Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, media reports said.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the rejection order considering gravity of the offence mentioned in the case, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.

The HC in the order said that the lower court convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to seven years’ imprisonment after the HC and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court completed all phases of trial proceedings challenged by Khaleda Zia, the ACC lawyer told the news paper.

A special court in Dhaka had convicted and jailed Khaleda in connection with the graft case on Oct 29 last year.

A case against her was registered with the Tejgaon Police Station on Aug 8, 2011.
