Dhaka, Feb 25 (IBNS) A court in Bangladesh on Wednesday issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and two others in connection with two cases of embezzlement of funds.

Reports said the Special Judge Court-3 of Md Abu Ahmed Jomadar scrapped bail for Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the country's largest opposition party,Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), after she failed to appear in the hearing of the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.

The two other accused are former BNP lawmaker Kazi Saleemul Haq and businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed who were also absent.

Khaleda's lawyer Zainul Abedin Meshbah said his client could not attend for security reasons.

Outside the court, supporters of BNP clashed with police as the were protesting against their leader being 'victimised.'
.

The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka r framed charges against Khaledar, her elder son Tarique Rahman and seven others in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases filed by Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Khaleda has been indicted in both the cases,. Her elder son Tarique Rahman, now living in London,  is indicted in the orphanage case.

The ACC filed the case in July 2008, alleging that Khaleda and five others, including Tarique Rahman, had embezzled over 20 million taka ($253,164) from the orphanage trust during her tenure as Prime Minister between 2001 and 2006.

The BNP-led  20-party opposition alliance has been observing a blockade across the country for an indefinite period since January 5, demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system.
