Australia: Man arrested for allegedly making threat call to Auburn mosque

Sydney, Dec 17 (IBNS): The Australian Police on Wednesday said they have arrested a man for allegedly making a threatening phone call to a mosque in Auburn in western Sydney on Tuesday.

"A man is due to appear in court next month after a threatening phone call was allegedly made to a mosque at Auburn yesterday. Just after 8am (Tuesday 16 December 2014), a phone call was made to a mosque in Auburn. It’s alleged during this call; a number of threats were made. Police from Flemington Local Area Command were alerted and commenced an investigation," the police said in a statement.

"As a result of their inquiries, detectives attended a home in Dural, where they arrested a 30-year-old man," it said.

"He was taken to Castle Hill Police Station; where he was charged with threaten to destroy property; use carriage way to make hoax threat; use carriageway to threaten serious harm; and use carriageway to offend," the police said.

The man was arrested at a time when the city witnessed a  17-hour-long siege when a gunman had held 17 hostages at a cafe on Monday.

Three people, including the gunman, were later killed.  The gunman was identified as Man Haron Monis.
