Nairobi, Nov 22 (IBNS): In a horrific incident, Al-Shabab militants from Somalia have reportedly hijacked a bus in northern Kenya and killed 28 non-Muslims on Saturday.

According to reports, the bus traveling to the capital Nairobi was hijacked 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Mandera town.

Two local police officers said that he gunmen singled out non-Muslims and shot them dead.

There were at least 60 passengers in the bus.

The Kenyan interior ministry confirmed the incident. It tweeted: "Bandits ambushed a bus from Mandera that was heading to Nairobi at dawn and killed 28 passengers of the 60 that were in the bus.”

It has been learnt that Kenya has been hit by a series of gun and bomb attacks blamed on Somalia's al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab militants since it sent troops into Somalia in October 2011.

Authorities say there have been at least 135 attacks since then, including the Westgate Mall attack in which 67 people were killed.

The terror group also said it was responsible for other attacks on Kenya's coast earlier this year which left at least 90 people dead.
