Maidan Shahr, Afghanistan, May 23 (Xinhua/UNI) At least five militants have been confirmed dead and five others injured as Afghan fighting aircraft struck Taliban hideouts in Sayed Abad district of Afghanistan's eastern Wardak province, said an army statement on Thursday.

The airstrikes, according to the statement, were conducted on a tip-off in Milikhilo area of the restive district on Wednesday afternoon, killing five armed insurgents on the spot and injuring five others.

Fighting between government forces and the Taliban insurgents has gotten momentum since April 12 when the armed group launched its so-called annual spring offensive in Afghanistan.
