After receiving criticisms for attempting to oust veteran MP, NDP chief Singh says caucus is united

Burnaby, Mar 30 (IBNS): After facing a backlash for taking the decision to oust a veteran MP, New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has said his caucus stands united.

Singh had drawn criticisms from his party after he had decided to oust Hamilton Centre MP David Christopherson after the latter voted against the New Democrats on a Conservative motion.

Christopherson was the vice chair of the procedure and House affairs committee.

Following the backlash, Singh had reversed his decision.

Reacting to the incident on Thursday, Singh said: "We're New Democrats. People are going to have different opinions. It's not a big deal."

"Many New Democrats are activists. They are used to speaking truth to power. I'm not so arrogant as a leader to believe that once I make a decision, that's it," the NDP chief was quoted by CTV News.

Stressing on the caucus unity, Singh told media, "We've got a strong caucus. It's a united caucus. My style is to listen to folks and to hear them out. I think that's what Canadians want."

Former NDP leadership rival Charlie Angus, who is also an Ontario MP, openly criticised Singh for his actions against Christopherson.
